Sharjah tourism numbers increase in June

The number of tourists visiting the UAE emirate of Sharjah increased by 3% – to 107,000 visitors – in June, compared to the same period in 2009, according to figures released by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA).According to SCTDA statistics, hotel occupancy rates reached 64% in June compared to the 61% recorded in the corresponding period last year.With regards to guests staying in hotels and hotel apartments, figures show that the number staying in hotels reached 51,878 compared to 51,354 in June 2009, while 55,801 guests stayed in hotel apartments during the period under review, up from 53,557 in 2009.Figures also show that the total number of occupied room nights in Sharjah’s hotels and hotel apartments rose to 112,299 in June, with hotel room nights accounting for 56,694, and hotel apartment room nights accounting for 55,605. This is compared to 106,460 occupied room nights during the same period in 2009, during which hotel room nights accounted for 52,300, and hotel apartment room nights accounted for 54,160.
