Room size is one of the most important factors when Indian travellers select a hotel, a new report has revealed.
In its 2016 Hotel Etiquette Report, Expedia found that room size was important for 95% of Indian travellers, second only to location and price (96%). The availability of free Wi-Fi (93%) was also a critical deciding factor.
It’s not only the size of the bedroom that’s important; 88% of Indian respondents said that large bathrooms were also a factor, while 82% liked to have outdoor space. And hoteliers need to make sure they keep Indian guests happy; the Expedia report revealed that 60% of Indians have switched hotel rooms.
Health and fitness facilities appear to be comparatively unimportant for travellers, relative to practical considerations such as location, size and price. Swimming pools were only found to be important for 69% of Indians while 64% said they liked to have a gym.
Manmeet Ahluwalia, Expedia’s marketing head for Expedia, commented; “It is interesting to note that 89% Indians consider hotel reviews as very [or] somewhat important while choosing a hotel. As Indian travellers are evolving, 77% consider the ability to earn and redeem reward points on their bookings as important.”
The survey also revealed that most preferred medium of booking a hotel among Indians remains a desktop or laptop computer (35%), but smartphone/tablet (29%) is catching up fast.
