It’s well documented that the UK grinds to a halt at the first sprinkling of snow, but if any industry should be prepared for winter weather, you’d think it would be the skiing industry. Alas, no. The CairnGorm Mountain ski centre in Scotland was reportedly forced to close last week – because of too much snow. The BBC reported that a two-day blizzard, buried approach roads in 15-foot (4.6-metre) drifts, making the resort inaccessible.
“We had to contract in huge 17-tonne caterpillar earth-movers,” said the resort’s Operations Manager, Colin Matthew. “They have spent two days now working about 18 hours a day trying to clear the roads.”
