Flight comparison website Skyscanner has reported a huge rise in flight searches for Singapore to coincide with the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
The event, which is due to be held on the weekend of 21 September, saw a 128% surge in searches from its top market (Hong Kong) compared to the previous weekend.
The biggest demand for flights came from predominantly Asian countries, the second and third biggest countries being Taiwan, which saw an 80% rise; and UAE which surged 48%.
Skyscanner Singapore’s marketing manager Ira Noviani said: “With the exception of four countries in the top 10, the growth in demand for travel to Singapore for the weekend of the race has been driven by Asia which just goes to show how popular F1 now is in this part of the world.”
