Starwood Hotels & Resorts has started the roll-out of its new SPG Keyless programme at Aloft hotels in Southeast Asia.
Effective immediately, members of the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) loyalty scheme who stay at the Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral will be able to unlock their rooms using their smartphone. This marks the first Aloft property in the region to offer this service.
“Technology is changing the way our guests travel. With the roll-out of SPG Keyless in the Aloft brand in Malaysia, we are further expanding our ability to meet the demands of tech-forward millennials with our innovative and design-led initiatives,” said Charlie Dang, Starwood’s regional vice president for Southeast Asia.
Under the new system, SPG members must register their phone through the SPG app and will be invited to opt-in to SPG Keyless. They will then be delivered their room number and Bluetooth key when the room is ready.
Upon arrival at the hotel, the guest can bypass the front desk and proceed straight to the room, where they can hold the Bluetooth-enabled smartphone against the door lock and wait for it to unlock.
SPG Keyless is an evolution of Starwood’s Smart Check-In system, which debuted at Aloft hotels in 2011 and allowed guests to access their rooms using a RFID-equipped key card.
“We are excited to be the first hotel company to launch Keyless Check-in in Malaysia,” said Gregory Gubiani, GM at the Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral. “This innovative technology allows Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral to further deliver on the wants and needs of our design-savvy and tech-focused guests who use their smartphones for just about every aspect of their lives.”
SPG Keyless is being progressively rolled out globally across Starwood’s Aloft, Element and W brands.
