Starwood Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement to bring its luxury St Regis brand to Shanghai.
Scheduled for completion in early 2017, the new St Regis Shanghai Jingan will be located in the city’s central business district, close to West Nanjing Road.
Part of a new mixed-use development, the hotel will offer approximately 480 guestrooms, including 41 suites and 47 residences. All rooms will be located from the 29th to 59th floors of the tower, offering views of the Shanghai skyline. There will also be several three-bedroom St Regis apartments on the top floors of the building.
Guests will have the choice of three restaurants and an alfresco bar, while leisure facilities will include a spa, indoor swimming pool and a large fitness centre. There will also be approximately 2,000m² of event space.
“This signing is testament to Starwood’s vigorous strategic planning and our commitment to fulfil the demand for luxury accommodation in this dynamic city,” said Nong Xia, Starwood’s senior vice president and head of acquisitions & development for Greater China. “When The St. Regis Shanghai Jingan and W Shanghai The Bund open in 2017, they’ll join The Luxury Collection properties Twelve at Hengshan and The Hongta Hotel, making Shanghai home to three of Starwood’s most prestigious brands.”
Starwood currently operates St Regis hotels in Beijing, Chengdu, Lhasa, Sanya, Shenzhen and Tianjin. But the new Shanghai property forms part of an extensive Chinese expansion plan for the brand, with 10 additional St Regis hotels expected to open in Macau, Changsha, Lijiang, Nanjing, Zhuhai, Haikou, Qingdao, Guiyang and Sanya in the coming years.
Starwood currently operates 12 hotels in Shanghai under five of its 10 brands, and has a further six hotels in its citywide pipeline.
