
Starwood’s Luxury Collection will expand in Shanghai next month with the opening of Twelve at Hengshan, a new residential-style property on Shanghai’s tree-lined Hengshan Road.
Opening in November 2012, the 171-room hotel will become the fourth Chinese property for Starwood’s Luxury Collection and the only high-end hotel in Shanghai’s historic Hengshan Road neighbourhood, which features are series of avenues lined with plane trees imported from France in the early 1900s.
The heritage hotel comprises a five-storey rectangular building surrounding an elliptical internal garden. The façade is dressed in more than 20,000 terracotta tiles while the interiors combine Chinese screens and silks with contemporary furnishings.
All of the rooms feature large windows overlooking the garden or cityscape, while more than half have balconies. In-room amenities include large marble bathrooms with bathtubs, flatscreen TVs in both the bedrooms and bathrooms, plus iPod docks and complimentary Wi-Fi access.
Other hotel facilities include two restaurants with open kitchens and a wine cellar, a roof terrace, spa, heated indoor pool, fitness centre and 1,300m² of meeting space.
