The New Taiwan Experiencing Kaohsiung’s Rural and Fishing Villages and Enjoying the Beautiful Scenery.

The travel exhibition attracted a large number of people and travel agents to inquire about the relevant itineraries. Chlitina, who has participated in the One-day Farmer event many times before, mentioned that it is currently the season of wax apples, mangoes, and lychee. She enjoys making hand-made aiyu jelly and participating in activities such as tea-picking and tea-making. Kaohsiung’s countryside offers a variety of scenery and fruits that change with each season, which impresses her every visit. She plans to revisit the city in the near future.

According to the Agriculture Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government, Kaohsiung is the largest city in southern Taiwan; with Xiaogang International Airport and Port, high-speed rail, and railway links to other cities such as Taipei and Taichung. On top of that, there are expressways that connect the urban areas to rural and fishing villages. It is very convenient to reach Dashu, Qishan, and Meinong areas within 30 minutes by the fastest transportation. A half-day tour or a one-day tour or a two-day tour is easy to arrange.

The one-day farmer’s official website will be frequently updated with the group itinerary.

China Airlines has become the latest Asian airline to unveil a cartoon-themed aircraft livery.

The Taiwanese national carrier revealed its “Buddy Bears” paintwork, which will feature on a Boeing 737 aircraft operating between Taiwan and Japan. The livery will include three bears: Taiwan’s OhBear and Hero, and Japan’s Kumamon.

This continues the recent trend of cartoon-themed jets; another Taiwanese carrier, EVA Air, already operates a fleet of aircraft based on popular Japanese animated characters including Hello Kitty.

The Buddy Bears aircraft will take off for the first time on 26 May, initially operating three times a week on the Kaohsiung-Kumamoto route. In future it will be deployed on routes connecting Kaohsiung with Tokyo, Osaka and Okinawa.

As well as the cartoon bears, the livery will feature images of Kaohsiung’s 85 Sky Tower, Japan’s cherry blossoms, Kumamoto Castle and Mount Aso.

Taiwan’s second largest city, Kaohsiung, is hoping to receive more cruise ships and passengers in future, as a means of boosting its tourism industry.

Taiwan News reported a senior city tourism official, Tseng Tzu-wen, as saying that Kaohsiung is expecting to see a rebound in the number of cruise ship visits it receives in 2017, following a sharp drop last year.

In 2015, 46 cruise ships docked in the southern city, but this declined in 2016. This year however, the city’s cruise sector is expected to rebound, with a total of 44 cruise ships scheduled to dock in Kaohsiung Port. According to Tseng, these ships are expected to bring in an estimated 120,000 passengers.

The city estimates that each cruise ship can bring in TW$2 million (US$65,600) in passenger revenue, so the 44 visits scheduled in 2016 could earn the city almost US$3m.

Taiwan News also cited Tseng as saying that the cruise sector forms part of Taiwan’s strategy to attract more tourists from other Asian countries, to offset a decline in arrivals from mainland China.

In an effort to make Kaohsiung more attractive to cruise passengers, port facilities have been upgraded and the city’s tourism bureau will conduct activities to welcome passengers, including gifts and tour options.

Cebu Pacific Air will launch its first flights to Russia, as part of a major international expansion plan.

The Philippines’ Civil Aeronautics Board has granted the low-cost carrier a series of new route entitlements, allowing it to expand its operations in Russia, the Middle East and Taiwan.

With its new status as an official Philippine carrier to Russia, Cebu Pacific has been granted permission to operate up to three weekly flights from Manila to Moscow and Vladivostok. It was also given permission to operate an additional seven flights weekly from Manila to any airport in the UAE, on top of its existing daily flights to Dubai.

And finally Cebu Pacific has been given permission to operate flights from various points in the Philippines to the Taiwanese cities of Taipei and Kaohshiung.

“We sincerely thank and commend the members of the Civil Aeronautics Board for enabling… Cebu Pacific to expand operations to key international destinations,” said Atty JR Mantaring, Cebu Pacific’s vice president of corporate affairs. “We’ve always maintained that traffic rights are valuable resources that must be rationally allocated to carriers that are willing and able to utilise and operate flights.”

While no schedules of the new routes to Russia, the UAE or Taiwan have yet been confirmed, Cebu Pacific said it “looks forward to mounting additional flights… and opening new routes to stimulate travel in emerging markets.”

This follows a series of recent international route launches for Cebu Pacific; on 17 December the airline launched three new routes – Manila-Fukuoka, Cebu-Taipei and Davao-Singapore – and it is planning to commence a new Manila-Guam service in March 2016.

The airline started flying to Osaka on 8 July, when flight TZ298 took off from Singapore’s Changi Airport. The service will now run three times a week (every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday), with a stop in Bangkok.

Then a day later on 9 July, the inaugural flight TZ288 departed Singapore bound for Kaohsiung, the second largest city in Taiwan. This service will now run every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and will continue onwards from Kaohsiung to Osaka, meaning that Scoot now flies to the Japanese city six times a week.

Both routes will be operated by Scoot’s new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, which offers 375 seats in two classes, and in-flight Wi-Fi.

Scoot will continue to upgrade its services to Japan and Taiwan in September this year, when its starts deploying its Dreamliners to Taipei and Tokyo.

The addition of Kaohsiung and Osaka boosts Scoot’s total network to 15 destinations in seven countries.

EVA Air will expand its operations in Japan next month, with the launch of a new service to Fukuoka and extra flights on existing routes.

Commencing on 31 March 2015, the new service will link Fukuoka with Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s second largest city. Flights will operate twice a week, every Tuesday and Saturday, using a 184-seat, two-class Airbus A321 aircraft.

The airline launched its first flights from Kaohsiung to Japan in 2013, linking Taiwan’s southern city with Tokyo. And already this year it has added a new route between Kaohsiung and Osaka.

EVA will further boost its Japanese operations on 29 March 2015, with the addition of more flights on two existing routes from Taipei’s Taoyuan International Airport. The Taipei-Hakodate service will be increased from three weekly flights to daily, while the Taipei-Osaka route will rise from 16 to 21 fights per week, or three per day.

EVA now flies to nine Japanese gateways, including Tokyo’s Narita and Haneda airports, Osaka, Fukuoka, Komatsu, Sendai, Sapporo, Hakodate and Okinawa.
