Saudia, Saudi Arabia’s national flag carrier, unveiled its new brand identity and livery in the presence of Royal Highnesses, Excellencies, and leaders from both the public and commercial sectors, as well as notable media reporters and aviation experts, during a landmark event in Jeddah. This new brand is part of a larger strategic digital transformation strategy to strengthen the airline’s support for the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which aims to bring the world to Saudi Arabia.

The rebrand ushers in a new age for Saudia, providing innovative customer service concepts with a strong focus on technology and increasing the passenger experience by celebrating Saudi culture.

This makeover strengthens Saudi Arabia’s national identity by reimagining all products and services to appeal to all five senses. During their journey, guests can expect a genuine Saudi experience showcasing Saudi Arabia’s finest and rich culture. This features a distinctive fragrance, sound character, and regionally inspired cuisine by talented Saudi artisans.

This new identity reflects Saudi Arabia’s welcoming spirit, providing guests with a deep awareness of the country’s friendliness and hospitality while encouraging nationals and tourists to understand Saudi culture better. The rebranding also includes new uniforms for cabin crew and ground employees.

The new brand colour design, which consists of green, blue, and sand, shows Saudia’s aim to expand its fleet and destinations, connecting the globe to Saudi Arabia while emphasising the Kingdom’s authenticity and deep-rooted values.

Parallel to the rebrand, Saudia has undergone a massive digital transformation, significantly improving the customer’s digital experience. Saudia is the first international airline to use generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a virtual assistant, named “SAUDIA,” which is one of the region’s first of its type. Saudia will allow visitors to finish the full transaction using this quick method by the end of the year.

The ambitious, long-planned digital transformation not only improves the customer experience but also allows for more simplified operations and processes, all while ensuring the highest standards of personal data security for guests through solid partnerships with leading global companies.

“We are in a new era and a very exciting time for Saudia,” stated His Excellency Eng. Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of Saudia Group. Our airline has grown from a single Douglas DC-3 plane in 1945 to a contemporary fleet of 140 aeroplanes covering over 100 destinations, making us one of the largest airlines in the region.

Saudia’s name and logo are inextricably linked to the Kingdom’s aviation history and development, and our people have a strong emotional attachment to the brand. This rich past has been included in our new brand and aspects that reflect our visionary approach, poised to captivate the world.”

Saudia is launching a fully integrated digital programme and redesigning its brand, but it is also successfully and promptly advancing Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, engaging with all industry players to meet the National Aviation Strategy’s targets.

In keeping with Saudia’s expansion plans of bringing around 330 million tourists to the Kingdom by 2030, the strategy intends to transform Saudi Arabia into a worldwide industry leader by improving the customer experience, boosting safety, and working towards a more sustainable future.

Saudi Arabia registered more international arrivals than any other Arab nation during the first nine months of 2022, as government officials target 100 million annual visitors by the end of this decade. Owing to these unprecedented numbers, the Kingdom’s burgeoning tourism sector will represent a key focus at Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2023, which will take place at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from 1-4 May.

This year’s Saudi Summit will take place on the Global Stage and focus on the importance of the Kingdom in reshaping the regional travel and tourism landscape now that mega projects are well under way. In addition to the summit, ATM 2023 will feature a host of Saudi exhibitors, including Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA), flynas, Makkah Clock Royal Tower, Asma Hospitality Company, Eye of Riyadh, Itrip, Dur Hospitality, Sadana Real Estate Co, Saudi Amad for Airport Services & Transport Support and many more.

Danielle Curtis, exhibition director ME, Arabian Travel Market, said: “The ATM 2023 Saudi Summit will offer an ideal forum in which travel professionals and policymakers from across the Middle East and beyond can explore opportunities and challenges within the Kingdom’s ever-growing tourism sector.

“From upcoming giga-developments such as NEOM and the Red Sea Project to how the Kingdom’s latest visa reforms are bolstering its travel sector, we expect Saudi Arabia to represent a major drawcard during the upcoming edition of ATM,” Curtis added.

Figures released by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) show that Saudi Arabia attracted more than 18 million inbound visits in the first three quarters of 2022, followed by the United Arab Emirates (14.8 million tourists) and Morocco (11 million tourists), which ranked second and third in the region, respectively.

Tourism spending in Saudi Arabia also skyrocketed last year, hitting USD7.2 billion in H1 2022 according to figures released by the country’s Ministry of Investment. Travel experts from around the world will place these statistics under the microscope at ATM 2023, as part of a series of KSA-focused sessions and panel discussions.

As well as market-specific focuses such as Saudi Arabia, ATM 2023 will explore the future of sustainable travel in line with its theme of ‘Working Towards Net Zero’. Having officially initiated its journey to net zero, the conference programme will explore how innovative sustainable travel trends are likely to evolve, allowing delegates to identify growth strategies within key vertical sectors, while providing a platform for regional experts to explore a sustainable future ahead of COP28, which will take place in November 2023 at Expo City Dubai.

The conference will also feature a sustainability category at its annual exhibitor awards for the first time. Exhibiting organisations will be recognised based on the extent to which they have considered the environmental impact of their stands, as well as their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint.

ATM 2023 is held in conjunction with Dubai World Trade Centre and its strategic partners include Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) as the Destination Partner, Emirates as the Official Airline Partner, IHG Hotels & Resorts as the Official Hotel Partner and Al Rais Travel as the Official DMC Partner.

Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA), the Kingdom’s national flag carrier, inaugurated its new SAUDIA Operations building at King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah. New headquarters to also serve as home to the Middle East’s largest operation control center.

The building, which boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure and technology, was inaugurated in a ceremony by His Royal Highness Prince Badr bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, the Deputy Governor of Makkah, and His Highness Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jalawi, Governor of Jeddah. The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al Jasser, the Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of Saudi Arabian Airlines Corporation and His Excellency Eng. Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of SAUDIA Group; along with members of SAUDIA’s Board of Directors, various KAIA officials, and members of the media.

Using a mock-up of an aircraft engine throttle, HRH Prince Badr signaled the inauguration of the highly equipped building which is set to serve as a key enabler of the Saudi Aviation Strategy, under the Kingdom’s broader National Transport and Logistics Strategy. The new building will also support SAUDIA in its efforts to make KAIA a global hub.

Built entirely by Saudi Airlines Real Estate Development Company (SARED) over an area of 50,000 square meters, the two-story building can accommodate more than 1,100 employees.

Throughout the building’s design, construction, and deployment stages, SARED prioritized the incorporation of and compliance with the highest safety and security standards. The environmentally friendly structure adheres to the highest international sustainability standards as well. It also aims to provide an ideal working environment that fosters productivity and innovation amongst its employees.

The building is situated near the far side of the airport, providing both pilots and cabin crew members with easy aircraft access. It is a proper mini terminal, complete with AI-powered self-boarding kiosks and five luggage carousels, as well as about 15 meeting rooms for preflight cabin crew briefings.

We are eager to see the new SAUDIA Operations building help make our flight services, which span over 100 destinations in four continents, more punctual and efficient than ever before,” said Al-Omar. The new infrastructure is not only equipped with innovative technologies that put us right on the leading edge of the world of aviation, but also easily meets the needs of SAUDIA and other stakeholders throughout the airport.”

The new operations building consists of multiple departments, including its extensive Operations Control Center. It is the largest center of its kind in the Middle East and the 12th largest globally. As SAUDIA’s beating heart, the center coordinates between the group’s business lines, communicates with aircraft via its state-of-the-art facilities to ensure control of its operational plans, and tracks air traffic across all domestic and international airports in real-time. It has been designed to bring every sector directly involved in flight operations under one roof to streamline communication and ensure seamless implementation throughout. The building also features captivating wall-to-wall displays that depict all currently operating aviation systems.
The building also features an Emergency Response Center. This fully equipped hall utilizes the latest integrated systems to analyze contingencies and fast-track decision-making.

The building also features a safety and quality assurance department that oversees the day-to-day operations of all concerned airport entities. The department is tasked with issuing technical recommendations to maintain operational safety, which has always been a hallmark of SAUDIA’s brilliant safety track record.

Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA), the national flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, has launched its first direct flight from the South Korean capital of Seoul to Riyadh. The new flight route comes in line with the Saudi Aviation Strategy, which aims to connect the Kingdom to the world with more than 250 destinations.

SAUDIA flight SV899 departed Seoul’s Incheon International Airport at 9:40 PM, arriving at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh early Wednesday morning. The landmark flight successfully utilised SAUDIA’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner, a two-class aircraft with 274 seats in guest class and 24 flat beds in business class. The establishment of the Seoul-Riyadh route demonstrates the air carrier’s commitment to offering a wide variety of flight options that boosts the Kingdom’s connectivity with the world.

“As the Wings of Vision 2030, the national carrier has the necessary capacity to continually broaden its route network and welcome a wide range of visitors into Saudi Arabia.” said Ahmed Alwassiah, chief operating officer of SAUDIA. “To support our strategic objectives, we ensure our airline’s 144-aircraft fleet is suited with the latest in-flight innovations and plan to modernize and expand it during the next few years.”

“With this milestone route,” he added, “SAUDIA is not only connecting the Kingdom to more of the world touristically, but also helping to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and services, allowing both countries to enhance their local businesses, logistics framework, and manufacturing infrastructure. The flight schedule between the two countries will be under constant review to ensure that flights and seating capacity successfully meet operational requirements.”

The landmark route is part of SAUDIA’s strategy to expand its network of more than 100 global destinations and improve the carrier’s competitive position internationally to further solidify the airline’s role in bringing the world to the Kingdom.

SAUDIA has invested significantly in upgrading its aircraft and currently operates one of the youngest fleets. The airline serves an extensive global route network covering around 100 destinations across four continents, including all 28 domestic airports in Saudi Arabia.

Airbus has delivered its first A330-300 Regional – a new variation of the twin-aisle passenger jet designed for high volume domestic and short-haul routes.

The aircraft, which was first announced in 2013, has a higher seat capacity and lower weight, making it more efficient to operate on short hops of up to 5,000km, or five hours flying time.

Saudi Arabian Airlines has become the launch customer for the new aircraft, having placed an order for 20 A330-300 Regionals at the 2015 Paris Airshow. These aircraft will join Saudia’s existing fleet of 12 A330-300s.

“We are excited to welcome the first A330-300 Regional to our fast-expanding Airbus fleet. It is a step forward in recognising our commitment to a family of aircraft which has contributed immensely to our market growth. The advantage of operating the new regional version of such a popular aircraft with proven operational flexibility and lowest cost per seat means unbeatable economics for our business and our customers,” said Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Saudia’s director general.

The A330-300 Regional was initially designed for high-volume domestic markets such as China and India, although no carriers in these countries have so far placed orders for the model.

Two airlines have suspended their operations to Peshawar Airport following the attack on a passenger aircraft last week.

Emirates took the immediate decision to pull out of Peshawar after last week’s terrorist attack, which killed one passenger and left two crew members injured. And now Saudi Arabian Airlines has also suspended its services to the Pakistani hub.

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft carrying 178 people from the Saudi capital Riyadh came under fire as it landed at Peshawar’s Bacha Khan International Airport on Tuesday night. Reports suggest that the shots were fired from outside the airport while the aircraft was still 100 metres above the ground.

Police told reporters that the aircraft was hit by six bullets. As well as the fatal shot, two crew members were hit, while of the bullets narrow missed the pilot. The aircraft’s engine was also struck, according to reports.

The incident, which is believed to have been the work of the Pakistani Taliban, comes just two weeks after an attack on Karachi Airport left 29 people dead. Following this incident, the Pakistani Army launched a major offensive against militants in the northwest of the country, close to Peshawar.

The Taliban also killed four people in a rocket attack at the airport in December 2012, but the attack on a commercial passenger aircraft is believed to be the first of its kind.

In the aftermath of Tuesday’s attack, Etihad and Qatar Airways also cancelled some flights to Peshawar, but these are now back on schedule. UAE-based low-cost carrier Air Arabia is also continuing with flights to the city. Saudi Arabia’s other major airline, flynas, pulled out of Pakistan last year.

Last week, Cathay Pacific announced that it will suspend all flights to Karachi at the end of June.

This step comes in line with Saudia’s plans to enhance its competitiveness and provide more services to passengers. He further added Saudia would operate three flights a week on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays between the Kingdom and Toronto.

The flight will take 13 hours, he said, noting that the flight route from the Kingdom will be Riyadh to Toronto via Jeddah and vice versa, the official said. A Boeing 777-200 aircraft will be deployed on the route in a three configuration – 24 seats in first class; 28 seats in business class and 170 seats in economy. The airline is also planning to operate a flight from the Kingdom to Los Angeles directly in spring 2014.
