Luxury hotel group Aman is set to open a new resort in the Niseko region located in Japan’s northern Hokkaido Island in 2023. The new resort, Aman Niseko, will be its fourth resort in Japan. It joins three other properties in Japan – Aman Tokyo, Amanemu and the newly opened Aman Kyoto.

Situated on the high slopes of Mount Moiwa in Hokkaido’s Niseko region, Aman Niseko will be an ‘all-season retreat’ featuring 30 guest rooms as well as wellness facilities and a number of restaurants on a 187-hectare site.

The resort will pay homage to Japan’s ryokan (traditional inn), with its views of the surrounding forests and mountains, open fireplaces, private furo (Japanese bath) bathtubs in each room and onsen (hot spring) facilities, as well as wooden accents in the interiors.

Aman Niseko will also be home to 31 exclusive Aman branded residences built on a mountain within the nature resort, which Aman said is a first in Japan. The residences, set on a forested slope, will have seasonal views of Mount Yotei.

Vladislav Doronin, chairman and CEO of Aman said: “The announcement of Aman Niseko follows the recent and successful debut of Aman Kyoto. Aman Niseko is designed in harmony with its expansive and serene surroundings and the resort and residences will embrace Aman’s devotion to detail and impeccable service.”

Marking the company’s first entry into Saudi Arabia, the hotel and resort brand Aman has signed a partnership deal with the Royal Commission for Al Ula (RCU) to develop its first Middle East properties in the Medina Region.

Under the terms of the agreement, Aman will develop three distinct luxury resorts. Detailed design work on all three properties is scheduled to commence in the coming months with a development timeline that will welcome the first guests in 2023.

Commenting on the agreement, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Mohammad bin Farhan Al Saud, minister of culture of Saudi Arabia and governor of the Royal Commission for Al Ula said: “The decision by Aman to open its first resorts in the Middle East in Al Ula shows the promise and progress of the vision for Al Ula to become a worldwide destination for those seeking unique experiences. This partnership will be the next step in the development of the yet to be discovered masterpiece that is Al Ula.”

Vladislav Doronin, CEO of Aman commented: “With the addition of spectacular Al Ula, this takes us to 10 properties situated near or in UNESCO heritage sites, making it a fitting location for our first destination in the Middle East.”

Luxury resort operator Aman has unveiled the first in a new series of new high-end city hotels.

Scheduled to open its doors on 22 December 2014, the 84-room Aman Tokyo will occupy the top six floors of the recently-built 38-storey Otemachi Tower.

The launch of the hotel follows the recent acquisition of Aman by Russian real estate tycoon, Vladislav Doronin.

“The moment the Aman acquisition was completed, the Aman Tokyo project became my top priority,” said Doronin, who is now the company’s majority shareholder. “After a lot of hard work to secure and fund the project, I am delighted that it came to such a successful conclusion for all parties involved.”

And Doronin revealed that he now plans to take Aman in a new direction, bringing a range of “city retreats” to key gateway cities around the world.

“Aman Tokyo is the first of a new generation of Aman properties in cities that appeal to discerning luxury consumers such as New York, London, Paris and Singapore, where we are already in active discussions,” he revealed. “Aman city retreats will become an integral part of the Aman strategy and having been an Aman-junkie for many years, I am deeply passionate about, and protective of, the Aman brand.”

And the new Aman Tokyo will offer a glimpse of what guests can expect from the city retreat concept.

The property is designed in a classical-contemporary style, with modern amenities and traditional Japanese design. The 30-metre-high lobby is designed to resemble the interior of a Japanese paper lantern, while an “inner garden” features two traditional Japanese rock gardens. Facilities include a 2,500m² Aman Spa, swimming pool, Japanese hot baths, a yoga and pilates studio, cigar lounge with built-in humidor, and a library with books on Japanese art and culture.

The hotel’s F&B offerings include a 33rd floor a lounge and restaurant which overlooks the city and Mount Fuji through floor-to-ceiling windows. There is also a glass-fronted walk-in wine cellar.

“Aman will once again redefine luxury with its unique focus on privacy, exclusivity, serenity, and impeccable personal service,” said Olivier Jolivet, Aman’s CEO. “Our new concept, commencing with Tokyo, perfectly captures the legacy and heritage of Aman and presents it for the first time in an urban setting.”

As well as being the company’s first city hotel, Aman Tokyo will also mark Aman’s debut in Japan. The launch will take Aman’s total portfolio to 27 properties in 20 countries worldwide.
