Thai Airways International (THAI) has teamed up with the Asia and South Pacific Initiative to
Reduce Emissions (ASPIRE), to conduct a green flight. On 5 May 2011, THAI and the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand LTD (AEROTHAI) sealed an agreement to promote the efficient use of fuel during flights, and the two companies joined with ASPIRE from 5-8 May to conduct an eco-friendly flight between Bangkok and Auckland.
Operated using a Boeing 777-200ER, the flight saw the aircraft prepared with an engine wash to help reduce fuel consumption by 0.6%, and an airframe wash for aerodynamic efficiency. THAI said it expects that these practices will decrease fuel consumption around 2% per flight.
