Thailand’s Ministry of Transport will meet with industry representatives to discuss ways to utilise abandoned airports in several provinces, the Bangkok Post has reported. Of the 28 provincial airports under the supervision of the country’s Civil Aviation Department, only 13 are being used regularly for commercial flights by airlines.
“The meeting will discuss how the state can maximise benefits from existing resources,” Transport Minister Sohpon Zarum was quoted saying. Airports with no commercial potential will be handed over to the air force for military use, the report added.
