Thailand’s tourism figures for January 2010 showed that the country is rebounding from the troubles of last year, with nearly 1.6 million visitors arriving in the country last month - up 24.4% tear-on-year. However this does compare to an especially poor month in January 2009, when Thailand was recovering from December’s airport closures. The Bangkok Post reported Thailand’s Tourism and Sports Minister, Chumpol Silpa-archa, as saying that arrivals in the next few months looked promising, as long as there was no return to the political protests that have plagued the country.
