DAVID UDELL has been named as Hyatt’s new group president for the Asia Pacific region. Effective 1 July 2014, Udell will be based in Hyatt’s regional office in Hong Kong. He first joined the company in 1982 as a trainee and has since been a GM of the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong and Park Hyatt Tokyo.
CHRIS ROBERTS has been appointed chief executive of the Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIA). Taking over from Martin Snedden, Roberts moves to TIA from his former position as general manager of corporate affairs for Tourism New Zealand. He takes up his new role in mid-July.
ERIC JOHN has become the new president of Boeing Korea. John joins the company on 30 May following three decades of international service with the US government. This included spells as the US ambassador to Thailand and deputy director of Korean Affairs, based in Washington DC.
DOMINIC BRENNAN has been appointed general manager of the Hilton Xi’an. A UK national, Brennan has 37 years’ hospitality experience including 18 years in China. His career to date has seen him manage international hotels on three continents: Europe, Asia and North America.
FREDRIK GENBERG has been appointed general manager of the Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich and Sofitel’s area general manager for southern China. With 26 years’ experience in Asia, Genberg has worked in China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam, and previously managed the Sofitel Beijing.
HOWARD LEIGH has been announced as the new chief financial officer for Anantara Vacation Club. A seasoned finance professional, Leigh has worked with companies including Coca Cola and Marriott. Most recently he held the same position at restaurant operator, Outback Steakhouse International.
MORTEN BOJSTRUP NIELSEN has been appointed by Dusit International to reposition its Benjarong Thai restaurant concept into a more contemporary style. The Danish chef, formerly of Nahm Restaurant in London, will be based at the Benjarong restaurant at Dusit Thani Bangkok.
JIM CARREKER has become a new Australian director for Relais & Châteaux. Carreker is the owner of the group’s new member in South Australia, the 15-suite retreat The Louise and restaurant Appellation. He will now represent the group’s 13 properties in Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific.
ALAIN KALLAS has been named as Jumeirah Group’s new vice president development – design. A Lebanese national, Kallas joined Jumeirah in 2007 and by 2010 he had risen to the position of regional director of development – design for the Middle East, Africa & South Asia region.
MICHAEL MANGAN has become Outrigger Hotels & Resorts’ new director of planning & support for Asia Pacific. Based in Phuket, he will guide Outrigger’s culinary direction and monitor guest satisfaction. An Australian national, he previously held executive chef positions with Parkroyal and Marriott.
MELANIE SMITH has become Anantara Vacation Club’s new head of club operations. The role will see Ms Smith head up the company’s reservation centres in Bangkok and Shanghai, as well as its club Asian resorts. An Australian national, she previously worked at the Anantara Bangkok Sathorn Hotel.
CARLOS WONG has been appointed director of sales & marketing at the Dorsett Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong. He has 30 years of hospitality industry experience, including spells with Marriott, Hyatt and Ritz-Carlton. Prior to joining Dorsett Wong worked for the Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel.
