Tigerair has started making its fares and inventory available via the Amadeus GDS system.
The low-cost carrier has penned its first distribution agreement with the company, which will enable Amadeus-connected travel agents in the Asia Pacific to book a full range of fares and ancillary services, including seat selection, baggage and advanced boarding.
Tigerair previously focused on driving direct bookings, but in recent months it has decided to broaden its range of distribution channels. In November 2013, the low-cost carrier penned its first ever GDS distribution deal with Travelport.
“The travel agency community is a vital piece towards Tigerair fulfilling our commitment in providing more customers with even more new travel experiences at very affordable fares. We look forward to serving up our extensive and diverse travel destinations to more customers across the region,” said Alexander Knigge, Tigerair’s group chief commercial officer.
All of Tigerair’s four regional subsidiaries, in Singapore, Indonesia, Australia and the Philippines, are now available via Amadeus.
“We are proud to partner with Tigerair to bring, for the first time, the airline’s full range of fares to our travel agency network in Asia Pacific,” said Angel Gallego, president of Amadeus Asia Pacific.
“LCCs like Tigerair today are evolving. As these airlines continue to grow and expand, the travel agency network becomes increasingly important to help them secure reach and scale. Our goal is to make it easier for LCCs, like Tigerair to embrace the travel agency sales channel through Amadeus to realise additional revenue opportunities,” he added.
Speaking with Travel Daily last year, Tigerair said it expects to increase the proportion of its business generated by travel agents from approximately 15% today to 25% in future, following its GDS tie-ups.
