Tourism Australia launches specialist website
13 Jan 10: Tourism Australia has launched a new version of its Aussie Specialist website to assist more than 23,000 travel agents worldwide who specialise in Australian holidays in increasing their expertise to better sell the destination to potential travellers.
The new website includes the online Aussie Specialist training program as well as new motivational materials such as downloadable itineraries and video footage on Australia’s seven key tourism experiences.
Tourism Australia’s Executive General Manager Marketing, Nick Baker said Aussie Specialist travel agents provided a vital link for converting the interest in Australia generated by Tourism Australia’s international marketing activities and turning this into actual holiday bookings.
“Aussie Specialists are a dedicated group of travel agents who are the frontline for selling Australian holidays to prospective travellers around the world,” Mr Baker said.
“These agents are hungry for knowledge on Australian travel experiences and are constantly looking to better serve the needs of their clients with information to improve itineraries and ultimately create better experiences for travellers to Australia.
“The new Aussie Specialist website aims to ensure the program provides an engaging and interactive way for agents to learn more about Australia, which in turn will assist them to sell the destination to their customers with confidence.
“In creating the new site we are also looking to generate new news about Australia at a time when there is a lot of competition between destinations for the tourist dollar,” Mr Baker said.
The online format of the Aussie Specialist Program is designed to equip agents with the knowledge and skills they need to sell Australia effectively and includes a number of modules on various aspects of Australia.
The Aussie Specialist Program was created and is managed by Tourism Australia in cooperation with the State and Territory Tourism Organisations. Globally, there are over 23,000 registered agents across more than 110 countries including key markets such as the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, New Zealand, and Asia.
Tourism Australia promotes the qualified Aussie Specialists globally to consumers through marketing programs and directs consumers interested in travelling to Australia to these retail travel agents. The program also provides an opportunity for Australian tourism suppliers to educate the Aussie Specialist network on their product or service.
