Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) will take meals out of its economy air fares from this weekend as part of a new catering concept.
Onboard meal costs will be taken out of the economy fares from 1 March making ticket prices cheaper, although passengers will have to pay for food and drink.
Initially rolling out on international flights, economy class passengers will be able to buy snacks and drinks from 1 March, with sandwiches to be added from 15 March.
Business class passengers will still get a meal included in the ticket price, with a pre-ordered meal service due to launch in June.
“UIA decided to introduce the new Buy on Board concept for economy class passengers and, accordingly, to revise the cost structure by excluding the onboard meals’ cost from the ticket fare in order to improve the price/quality balance,” said Anton Borysyuk, VP service and logistics at UIA. “The concept developed with due regard to other airlines’ successful experience will allow UIA to both offer passengers a wide range of high-quality meals and provide them with an opportunity to choose and pay for the onboard service level that suits them best.”
