Travellers from the UK and USA continue to account for the largest number of Indian e-tourist visa applications.
According to the latest data from India’s Ministry of Tourism, a total of 68,487 international tourists arrived in the country on e-visas in July 2016, marking a jump of 219% compared to the same month last year.
UK nationals accounted for 17.7% of the total e-visas issued during the month, followed by the US (16.2%). France (6.7%), UAE (5.9%) and China (5.4%) completed the top five.
For the first seven months of the year, the number of e-tourist visas issued by India has jumped 266% to 540,396, although this has coincided with a significant expansion of the programme.
Travellers from 150 countries can now apply for e-tourist visas when entering India at one of 16 airports.
