United Airlines losses narrow

United Airlines posted a narrower fourth-quarter loss as fuel spending dropped by more than half. According to a Bloomberg report, the loss excluding one-time items was US$176 million. United said lower jet fuel prices cut expenses by 52% to US$877 million, while salaries and related costs fell 11%. Including one-time items for fuel-hedge adjustments and taxes, United’s net loss narrowed to US$240 million from US$1.32 billion a year earlier.
