The US has followed the UK in issuing a travel warning for Yemen in response to escalating civil unrest and the threat posed by “terrorist activities”.Yemen has been rocked in recent weeks by sometimes violent demonstrations by anti-government protesters, who have called for the resignation of President Ali Abdullah Saleh. The country’s capital, Sanaa, was also the subject of a terrorist attack by suspected Al-Qaeda militants last week that left four Yemeni soldiers dead. The US has advised American citizens within the country to leave at the earliest available opportunity.”Should a crisis occur, evacuation options from Yemen would be extremely limited due to the lack of infrastructure, geographic constraints, and other security concerns,” the state department said.
