Authorities in Vietnam are considering raising the price of domestic airfares by more than 20%, local media reported the country’s Finance Ministry as saying. Nguyen Tien Thoa, Director of the Ministry’s Price Control Department, told news portal VnExpress, that the increase was being considered following requests from airlines, with the devaluation of the Vietnamese dong and rising fuel prices hitting profits.”We think it’s reasonable that they (the airlines) want to raise the prices. What we are still considering is how much the hike should be and when it should take effect,” Thoa told VnExpress in an interview. He added that carriers are seeking approval to increase domestic fares by 20-50%.
