Virgin Australia upgrades long-haul cabins

Virgin Australia has unveiled a series of new upgrades to its long-haul aircraft cabins, including a new business class seat and an extra legroom product in economy class.
The airline’s new International Business Class cabin has been launched on the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft it flies to the US.
The revamped cabin now consists of 37 seats that convert into fully-flat beds, all of which offer direct aisle access. Seats also include additional space to work and store personal items, new bedding, in-seat power outlets and a USB outlets, and 18-inch HD touchscreen in-flight entertainment monitors.
“With competition increasing from Australia to North America and the Middle East, we believe this will be the best business class on the Pacific, with the product also being introduced to Abu Dhabi later this year,” said Virgin Australia’s group CEO, John Borghetti.
“We are confident that, with our new Boeing 777 business class cabin and refreshed premium cabin, Virgin Australia will be the number one choice for premium travellers.”
The new Economy Space + concept will launch on 30 August 2016, located in a dedicated cabin of five rows behind the premium economy cabin, as well as exit rows. The new product offers extra legroom, a separate check-in counter, priority boarding, noise-cancelling headset and guaranteed first meal choice.
“We are excited to launch our new Economy Space + product, providing more choice and comfort for passengers travelling in the main cabin,” said Virgin Australia’s chief customer officer, Mark Hassell. “Economy Space + enables you to speed through the airport and enjoy service from dedicated crew members throughout the flight, providing great value for guests travelling to Los Angeles and Abu Dhabi.”
All five of the airline’s B777-300ER aircraft are expected to be refitted with the new cabin products by the third quarter of 2016. Virgin Australia currently flies daily from Sydney and Brisbane to Los Angeles, and three times per week from Sydney to Abu Dhabi.
