A ground-breaking ceremony was held recently for a major new development close to Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport.

Designed by Zaha Hadid, the famed architect responsible for the Guangzhou Opera House, the new Guangzhou Infinitus Plaza will rise in the Baiyun New Town area of the city.

The new complex of contemporary buildings will include a global R&D centre, a Chinese herbal medicine research centre, as well as a corporate exhibition centre and gallery. The project is expected to cost CNY4.5 billion (US$659 million) and be completed in 2020.

The design will incorporate connected walkways, walking and jogging tracks, and a garden of Chinese herbal plants and flora on the roof.
