Xiamen Airlines signs major aircraft deal

China’s Xiamen Airlines has signed a major aircraft purchase order that will increase its fleet size by almost 50%.
The Fujian province-based airline has agreed to buy 40 Boeing 737-800 aircraft worth US$3.5 billion at list prices. The new B737s will boost Xiamen Airlines’ existing fleet of 83 aircraft, including 77 B737s, and will be deployed on routes to destinations in China and Asia Pacific.
“We are delighted that Xiamen has decided to add to their expanding Next Generation 737 fleet,” said Ihssane Mounir, Boeing’s vice president of Sales & Marketing for Greater China & Korea. “This commitment from one of the fastest-growing airlines in the world is a testament to the world’s best-selling airplane and the many advantages the Next-Generation 737 provides to the airline and its passengers.”
Xiamen Airlines plans to grow its fleet to 200 aircraft by the end of year 2020.
