Industry prepare for summer holiday getaway

ABTA has estimated that 1.9m Brits will head overseas this weekend, as holiday and tourism prices drop worldwide to draw in visitors. Traffic through airports will be busy as 440,000 will leave Heathrow, 250,000 from Gatwick and 127,000 passengers will depart from Edinburgh and Glasgow. Meanwhile, The Co-operative Travel has revealed that family summer holiday prices have fallen by as much as 34% compared to last year ahead of one of the year’s busiest travelling weekends. This will come as good news to thousands of travellers who usually face high prices through the peak school holiday periods. Figures showed that Eastern Mediterranean resorts had the biggest savings, particularly to Paphos (-34%), Crete (-29%), Zante (-26%) and Turkey (-24%). “People are booking their holidays much later this year and as a result we’re seeing the emergence of a very strong late bookings market for family groups,” explained The Co-operative Travel Director of Retail Distribution Trevor Davis. “This means that there are thousands of family holidays being sold at much-reduced prices.” On average, prices had dropped by 13.5%, with a typical saving of
