Philippine Airlines (PAL) has said that it is ready to deal with any industrial action undertaken by its workers’ union, after a pre-strike rally at Manila airport on Friday disrupted traffic. The PAL Employees Association (PALEA) staged the rally in protest against the airline’s proposed sale of three subsidiary units, and the protracted negotiations over pay and conditions. “Any illegal action of the PAL Employees Association to disrupt airline operations will not be treated lightly,” PAL’s President & COO, Jaime Bautista, said. He also reiterated that PAL was prepared to deal with any industrial action by the union.”We are ready for any PALEA action because not only do we have contingency measures in place, we also have the commitment of many ground workers that they will not join the strike,” Bautista said. No schedules flight services were affected by Friday’s rally, however significant traffic disruption was reported on the roads around Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
