Atholl Estates is delighted to announce the arrival of their latest range of activities and accommodation in the historic grounds of Blair Castle. A NEW development of five Scandinavian-style woodland lodges in the historic grounds of Blair Castle offer the perfect base to enjoy the range of activities available on the estate. Situated in their own tranquil wooded area, the lodges remain conveniently close to the amenities of Blair Castle Caravan Park. The two and three bedroom lodges offer a wonderful opportunity for couples or families to relax and enjoy the spectacular surroundings. The lodges are built to a very high specification with double-glazing, increased insulation and central heating to make them attractive holiday accommodation all year round. Each lodge also has its own decking area complete with outdoor furniture so you can enjoy the local wildlife, including red squirrels and roe deer, at close hand. As the festive lights go out on Atholl Estates, the New Year brings a range of new activities including the NEW Winter Red Squirrel Safari’s, an Exhilarating Land Rover safari in search of one of Scotland’s most iconic animals. Enjoy a morning walking and driving through our farm land and forests in search of red squirrels as they play and search for food. Winter is a great time to watch red squirrels as there’s less cover from tree foliage and the squirrels are more active in their search for food. As part of the tour you will stop at one of our wild life hides to witness these cheeky creatures move around in their natural setting and while there, enjoy some warm refreshments and listen to our guide, Sandy, a man who has lived and worked on Atholl for almost 50 years. Sandy has lived and worked on the estate for all his career and will share his specialist knowledge of the natural area which is rich in wildlife including red squirrels, birds of prey, deer and mountain hares. The new woodland lodges offer the ideal base to explore the estate’s wildlife, Blair Castle and the seasonal delight of snowdrops in bloom. Blair Castle will be participating in the annual Snowdrop Festival which commences on the 1st February and runs until the 14th March 2010. A special route around the castle grounds includes access to two new paths (only open to the public during snowdrop time). The outdoor flowers will be complimented by the ‘Scented Castle’ of indoor bowls of scented daffodils, hyacinths and tulips filling the castle’s entrance hall, Banvie Hall and restaurant. Also in February, Blair Castle will stage two performances as part of Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s annual Winter Words Festival, ‘There Was a Soldier – Angus Konstam in conversation with Colin Liddell’ and ‘Queen Victoria’s Highland Journals’. Please visit www.blair-castle.co.uk /events for updates. On Saturdays in March, the castle ballroom will be available for the enjoyment of Twinings fine teas, coffees, cakes, soup, sandwiches and light lunches between 9.30am and 2pm.
