Cruise couple shot in Barbados

A British couple have been shot while on a P&O Cruise on shore in Barbados’ capital Bridgeton.
The incident, which took place on Sunday afternoon, happened during an armed robbery in a popular tourist area. Police confirmed that the assailant got away with the woman’s handbag.
The woman, in her 50s, was shot in her right thigh while the man, in his 70s, was hit in his left side. Both are recovering in hospital with reports circulating that neither is in a life threatening condition.
The couple were on an 85-day P&O World Cruise onboard the 710-passenger Adonia, which departed Southampton in January.
The company has released the following statement:
“Two passengers on Adonia were hospitalised in Bridgetown, Barbados following an incident on shore on Sunday March 17. One passenger has since been released from hospital.
“Local authorities are investigating. Our shoreside customer Care team and ship’s medical team are providing support as necessary.
“Adonia is on an 85-night world cruise which left Southampton on January 8, 2013 and will arrive back in Southampton on April 3, 2013.”
