Nepal Tourism Board tapped the East India market by organising a three-city road show in association with Blue Square Consultants.
The road show called ‘East India Mission’ targeted Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and Ranchi. The tourism board plans to promote destinations such as Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Lumbini, Manakamana and Muktinath. Hill stations including Nagarkot, Dhulikhel, Daman, Bandipur and Tansen will also be promoted.
“India is the most significant market for the Nepalese tourism industry with approximately 1/3 total market share. The Indian market is important for both in terms of value and volume. In 2012, Nepal received 164,680 tourists from India by air which is 13.3% increase as compared to 2011. Post the success of last year’s road show which aimed at reaching out to the Western cities in India, this year it was a conscious decision to target the eastern cities of India. We saw a great response at the road show and hope that the same will result in increased number of travellers from India,” said Madan Kumar Lamichhane, marketing director for Nepal Tourism Board.
