Nepal recorded a year-on-year growth of 20% in international tourist arrivals (by air) in July.During the month, the country welcomed a total of 35,212 tourists with arrivals from the South Asian region growing by 21.7%.Those coming from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka increasedby 24.5%, 58% and 70.8% respectively. However, arrivals from Bangladesh fell by 11.2%, according to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).The number of tourists who came to Nepal from Asia (other than South Asia) also increased by 56.6%. China, another major source market, recorded a phenomenal growth of 127.7%.Visitor arrivals from Malaysia soared by 18.9% while Singapore, South Korea and Thailand registered gains of 36%, 23.9% and 107.1% respectively. However, arrivals from Japan declined by 7.9% last month compared to July 2010.The European market posted an overall negative growth of 5.6% with major source countries indicating mixed performances in terms of visitor arrivals. Arrivals from the UK, France and Belgium went up by 7.1 %, 4.7 % and 31.4 %, respectively. Arrivals from Germany, the Netherlands and Spain also declined by 45.3 %, 24.1 % and 21.1 %, respectively.
