Hawaiian Airlines has launched a new direct flight to Taipei.
Flight HA807 took off from Honolulu for the first time on 9 July 2013, bound for Taipei’s Taoyuan International Airport. The Taiwanese capital becomes Hawaiian’s seventh Asian destination and will be served three times a week using a 294-seat Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
Flights depart Honolulu at 0155 every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, cross the International Date Line and land at Taoyuan at 0615 the following day. The return flight leaves Taipei at 2055 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, re-crosses the Date Line, and arrives back in Hawaii at 1310 the same day.
“The demand for service to Hawaii from the Taiwan market has been growing and we are delighted to respond to the strong interest by delivering our new non-stop service to and from Taipei,” said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian Airlines’ president & CEO.
“The Hawaiian Islands are the ideal midpoint destination, perfectly situated to offer dual-destination trips with easy connections between Taipei and our 11 gateways in the US.”
The flight marks the latest stage in Hawaiian’s Asia Pacific expansion strategy. Since November 2010 the airline has launched new routes to Tokyo, Seoul, Osaka, Fukuoka, Sapporo, Brisbane, Auckland and Sendai. A new direct flight to Beijing will begin in April 2014.
The Taipei launch also capitalises on the extension of the US Visa Waiver programme to cover citizens of Taiwan.
