Simon Calder has been announced as the headline sponsor at Elite Travel Group’s conference in October.
Calder, who is senior travel editor at The Independent, is to share his views on the travel industry and participate in a Q&A during his session at the conference, having recently riled the industry with his comments about cheap summer holidays.
Other speakers will include new ABTA chairman Noel Josephides who will focus on the Package Travel Directive and Alan Bowen from AGB Associates who will discuss its response to ATOL regulations.
The conference will take place from 4-6 October at the Apex International Hotel, Edinburgh and this year has invited all independent travel agents to attend including non-Elite members.
“Due to the quality and relevance of the speakers confirmed to date together with presentations from some key suppliers, we felt that there was an opportunity here for other independent travel agents to attend as key issues will be discussed. With attendance costs deliberately kept low, this should prove to be a truly relevant conference for any independent travel agent as it does not discuss internal matters,” said Neil Basnett, chief executive of Elite.
