Japan Airlines (JAL) has unveiled a series of new international routes from Tokyo Haneda Airport this summer.
Following the recent expansion of international slots at Haneda, JAL has announced that it will commence brand new routes to London Heathrow and Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), while also adding extra flights to Bangkok and Singapore.
From 30 March 2014, JAL will operate daily flights between Haneda and Heathrow using its Boeing 777-300ER, and daily flights from Haneda to HCMC using a B767-300ER. The London flight however, will replace the airline’s existing daily service to Heathrow from Tokyo Narita Airport, which will be suspended.
Also from 30 March, JAL will shift one of its daily flights on the Singapore and Bangkok routes from Narita to Haneda. This means that from this date, the two Southeast Asian cities will be served daily from Narita and twice daily from Haneda.
“JAL will strive to improve customer accessibility and meet travel demand in overseas gateways to connect with domestic cities,” the carrier said in a statement.
Meanwhile, JAL will also re-deploy its B787 Dreamliner aircraft for the summer season. The new aircraft will start operating the Narita-Paris route from 30 March, while the airline’s Dreamliner services from Narita to New York will be doubled to twice a day, and the Narita-Moscow route will increase from three to four flights per week.
And as previously announced, JAL will also deploy its Dreamliner on the Narita-Vancouver route.
The aircraft will be removed however, from the Haneda-Bangkok, Haneda-Beijing, Haneda-Singapore, Narita-Delhi, Narita-Sydney and Narita-Singapore routes. The Narita-Seoul Incheon route meanwhile, will be downgraded from a wide-body B767 to a narrow-body B737.
JAL was awarded five new slots at Haneda last year, when Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport & Tourism expanded international operations at Haneda – Asia’s second busiest airport.
