GISELA CIANCIO has been appointed director of human resources at Four Seasons Hotel Doha. In addition to overseeing the Hotel’s HR functions, she will also serve as a member of the Hotel’s Planning Committee. The promotion sees Gisela move to Qatar from Four Seasons Hotel New York. She joined the company in 2004 as a Learning & Development Manager on the pre-opening team for Four Seasons Hotel Doha.
MAURICE PHOHLELI has been appointed vice president – Africa Sub-Sahara and Indian Ocean for Etihad Airways. He will be based in new offices in Johannesburg, South Africa. The new AFI region currently covers six countries across Africa, including: Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, and the Republic of the Seychelles and the Maldives in the Indian Ocean.
RASHED SAIF AL SHABI has been appointed area general manager for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at Etihad Airways. Based in Riyadh, Al Shabi will oversee the airline’s commercial activities in the Kingdom. He has previously served in a number of roles at Etihad Airways, including general manager in Cyprus and business development manager in Jordan.
VINCENT FRASCOGNA has been appointed manager Western Australia, based in Perth for Etihad Airways. He takes on the role after five years based in Etihad Airways’ headquarters in Abu Dhabi – four of which have seen him managing the airline’s sales operations as head of commercial development. This role included responsibility for commercial integration of new partnerships and worldwide roll-out of the airline’s SME loyalty scheme BusinessConnect.
DR NADIA BASTAKI has been appointed vice president medical services at Etihad Airways. She brings with her over 10 years of experience as a medical practitioner. Since joining Etihad Airways in 2007, she has helped to position the airline in the field of aviation medicine, while also focusing on clinical care at the Etihad Airways Medical Centre in Abu Dhabi.
RODDY GORDON has been appointed director of sales and marketing for Grand Hyatt Dubai. In addition, he also takes on the mantle of area director of sales and marketing for Hyatt Hotels in Dubai. He brings with him over 24 years of experience in the hospitality industry with a strong focus on the luxury hotel and services sector. In his area role, Roddy will help with collective marketing planning and sales development of the Dubai portfolio (including Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Park Hyatt and Hyatt Place).
MANOJ PAPA has been appointed chief executive officer for Air Seychelles. He succeeds Cramer Ball former CEO of the airline. Papa joins from South African Airways, where he held the position of acting general manager: commercial, overseeing entire commercial portfolio for the airline. Ball will stay on to ensure a seamless transition until Papa officially assumes the position of CEO on 1 March 2014.
MARKUS ISELI has been appointed general manager at The Chedi Muscat. Iseli most recently managed the pre-opening and soft-opening of the Palazzo Parigi in Milan, Italy. The Muscat posting marks the Swiss native’s third stint in the Middle East. He was hotel manager of the Four Seasons in Istanbul from 2000 to 2004, and general manager of the Four Seasons in Damascus from 2004 to 2008.
