The UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has formed a new global partnership with UBM’s aviation event, Routes.
Starting at this year’s Routes Africa event, which takes place in Zimbabwe from 22-24 June, the two parties will work together to develop a series of programmes designed to address the key issues of infrastructure, air connectivity and visa facilitation.
“Considering that over 50% of the world’s international tourists arrive to their destinations by plane, promoting air connectivity and a closer alignment between tourism and aviation policies is one of UNWTO main priorities”, said Taleb Rifai, UNWTO secretary-general.
UBM currently operates a global Routes event and regional editions in Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa and the CIS (Silk Road). These events bring together airports, airlines, tourism boards and other stakeholders to further the development of commercial aviation links.
Routes director Katie Bland said the new partnership would “add significant value to UNWTO’s work” in the aviation sector.
