Thai hotel group AHMS has offered the first glimpse of its new luxury boutique property in Chiang Mai.
The akyra Manor Chiang Mai, which is due to open in Q1 2015, is located on the trendy Nimmanhaemin Soi 9, and has been created in partnership with local design company Manor Studio.
The hotel is an all-suite luxury property with 21 standard suites measuring 57m² and seven larger units that spread across 98m². Other facilities will include a modern Italian restaurant with show kitchen and pizza ovens, plus a rooftop swimming pool and pool bar.
The facade of the hotel is designed to resemble Chiang Mai’s ancient city wall.
“In Chiang Mai, you see a lot of resorts built around a courtyard, so there is a sense of privacy, yet you are also looking into the spaces of your neighbours,” said Chaw Chih Wen, Manor Studio’s design director. “We have kept that feeling yet enhanced the privacy with an ingenious feature in each room. So the jacuzzi bathtub is outdoors, but covered by a roof with a cloud motif, and that becomes the centrepiece of each courtyard.
“The wall separates old and new, so the ancient city wall is the inspiration for the facade. It looks iconic, but we are not just pursuing ‘wow’ for its own sake. We want the hotel to be perceived as something natural, a curved, organic part of the landscape, created over time with many layers,” he added.
akyra Manor Chiang Mai will join AHMS’ existing portfolio of hotels in Thailand, including the akyra Chura Samui, Akaryn Samui, Aleenta Phuket-Phang Nga and Aleenta Hua Hin-Pranburi. And the company will also debut in Cambodia next year with the launch of the Akaryn Koh Krabeay Retreat & Spa.
