Ryanair has renewed a row with Spanish online travel agent eDreams Odigeo over price transparency, after Iberia and British Airways pulled its fares down from some of the company’s websites earlier this week.
The Irish carrier called for more transparency in a letter to the OTA’s CEO Javier Perez-Tenessa and currently does not display its flights through its some Odigeo-owned websites.
According to Spanish media, Ryanair’s director of marketing Kenny Jacobs said: “eDreams continues scanning and providing Ryanair flight information in an unauthorised manner and then cheats customers by showing artificially low prices in the beginning of the purchase, that does not really exist.”
Ryanair had previously launched a court battle against eDreams in 2009 but the court ruled that the OTA could continue to gain access to flight data and information from the airline’s website.
In response eDreams listed examples of Ryanair carrying out ‘unfair competition’ against eDreams and other OTAs.
Its statement read: “This is not the first time that Ryanair has tried to damage the image and/or hinder the activity of online travel agencies, which provide users with a clear and transparent way to find the flight offers which best suit their needs, regardless which airline that may be.”
The move came after British Airways and Iberia removed ticketing from three of Odigeo’s websites, blaming the OTA for not displaying full ticket prices at the start of the booking process. Bloomberg reported the decision was made after weeks of negotiations.
