Growth in global air travel is stalling compared to levels seen a year ago, according to the latest IATA statistics.
The association said international passenger numbers increased 3.6% in November year-on-year, behind October’s 3.7% growth.
European travel saw a 4.9% rise driven primarily by economy seat sales which increased 5.2%.
This is thought to be mainly from business travellers giving up premium seats to cut costs, with higher class travel only up 0.9% in the region.
Travel from Europe into the Middle East and Far East has also improved by 6.5% and 2.5% respectively although at slightly lower rates than previously. Traffic between the Middle East and Far East, where many European travellers are heading after connecting in the Middle East, is up 7.3%.
Globally both economy and premium passenger growth numbers have flattened in the last few years and while the outlook remains positive a slowdown in the Chinese and Eurozone economies will put pressure on demand.
