Avalon Waterways, the river cruise operator, has announced plans to launch its first ever ship in Myanmar.
The new Avalon Myanmar becomes the company’s second new Southeast Asian vessel in the space of a year, following the launch of Avalon Siem Reap in January 2015.
Like its sister ship, Avalon Myanmar has been built by local craftsmen and features 18 rooms, each measuring almost 23m² and featuring wall-to-wall panoramic windows and en suite bathrooms.
It will offer 10-day cruises on the Irrawaddy River, passing Bagan, Amarapura, Mandalay, Bhamo and Sagaing, as part of a 15-day ‘Golden Myanmar & the Irrawaddy’ itinerary which also includes a stay in Yangon.
“The Asia Suite Ships feature a similar high specification design as our European Suite Ships, with spacious suites to include full-sized bathrooms and a colonial feel to reflect the environment,” explained David Binns, Avalon UK’s general manager. “We can offer the opportunity to experience more by sailing further upstream on the Irrawaddy to visit a monastery, a local school and market and even an elephant camp in the teak forest.”
Both the Avalon Myanmar and Avalon Siem Reap are featured in Avalon Waterways’ first dedicated Asia brochure.
