Star Ticket, the online bus ticket company which was been called the “Redbus of Myanmar”, has secured major new funding.
Local internet company BOD Tech has chosen to invest US$200,000 in Star Ticket, which was founded by sister and brother pair Thet Mon Aye and Zarni Nway Oo. Their site, starticket.com.mm, is linked to Myanmar’s bus stations in real time and allows users to purchase tickets online.
The tickets can then be paid for and collected at a range of outlets, including hundreds of convenience stores.
The company currently processes more than 2,200 tickets per month, for travel between 12 Myanmar cities.
And Thet Mon Aye said the new funding would allow her company to expand further across the country in future.
“We are hoping to become the core infrastructure of bus ticketing in Myanmar in the next two years, and to move into to other ticketing verticals in the future,” she stated.
BOD Tech has previously invested in Flymya.com, Myanmar’s largest flight ticketing portal, as well as other start-ups in the country.
“Star Ticket has so much potential as it has both online and offline sales channel. This investment will bring synergy between Myanmar’s largest flight portal and fastest growing ticketing portal together.” Mike Than Tun Win, founder of BOD Tech said.
