The new Dubai Safari Park will open by the end of 2016, according to Dubai Municipality officials.
The $272 million attraction, which replaces Dubai’s existing zoo in Jumeirah, will be home to 1,000 animals, more than 350 of which will be rare and endangered species.
“The park is ready and will open before end of the year,” an official told local media.
Dubai Safari will cover 119 hectares, an area 80 times larger than Dubai Zoo, and will feature a safari village, Arabian village, Asian village, African village, children’s zoo, butterfly park and a botanical garden.
Dubai Municipality has said the Safari Park’s design and layout incorporates the best practices from world-renowned safaris and zoos.
“A team of specialists visited a number of the world’s best and important zoos, such as those in Indonesia, Singapore, Austria, Germany and the San Diego Zoo. It is important to note that we did not only use their best practices but also adapted them to suit the needs of Dubai,” said another official.
The attraction is also designed to be environmentally-friendly and will incorporate solar energy, water recycling, waste disposal and other recycling facilities. The park will feature 100 different kinds of plants and more than 2,500 trees.
