Asian flights to increase 12% in January

This month’s analysis of the OAG (Official Airline Guide) schedules database indicates that airlines Worldwide will operate 5% more flights in January 2011 as compared to January 2010. The total number of scheduled flights operating in January 2011 is 2,481,326 with an overall seat offering of 311,227,683 an increase of 6% as compared to January 2010.
Results by region:
– Flights and offered seats To/From North America have increased by 0.5% and 3% respectively. Total number of flights that will operate To/From North America is 87,731 and total offered seats are 17,447,294. Traffic Within North America reflects an increase of 1% in frequencies and 2% in offered seats. Frequencies and offered seats Within North America have increased by6,738 and 1,578,294 respectively.
– Flight operations and seat capacity Within Europe have both increased by 4%. Total number of flights that will operate Within Europe is 521,850 and total offered seats are 63,533,153. Traffic To/From Europe reflects growth with an increase of 10% in the number of flights and 11% in offered seats.
– The number of flights and seat capacity Within Middle East are scheduled to rise by 3% and 4% respectively. Total flights scheduled to operate Within Middle East are 45,312 and seat capacity offered is 6,995,854. Number of flights and seat capacity To/From Middle East both reflect an increase of 12% with frequency of 53,771 and seat capacity of 11,677,601.
– Number of flights and seat capacity To/From Asia Pacific has increased by 12% and 11% respectively. Within Asia/Pacific there will be 50,896 more flights and 7,324,235 more seats than in January 2010 resulting in an increase of 9% in both flight operations and seat offerings.
– Number of flights and seat capacity To/From Africa have both increased by 12%. As compared to January 2010 there will be 4,245 more flights and 852,564 more seats this month. Similarly traffic Within Africa reflects a strong growth of 12% in flight operations
and 9% in offered seats.
– Flight operations and seat capacity Within Central & South America have both increased by 5%. Total number of flights that will operate Within Central & South America is 217,700 and total offered seats are 22,630,389. Traffic To/From Central & South America has decreased by 4% in frequency and 3% in offered seats with 2,579 less flights and 272,971 less seats.
– The table below shows the ten-year trend in the overall number of flight operations to/from & within selected regions from January 2002 through to January 2011.
