New high-speed trains will be introduced to Shanghai’s Metro network from November 2011, local media has reported. The new trains will run at speeds of up to 160kph – more than three times faster than the existing 50kph services. The trains will initially run on the city’s new Line 22, connecting Shanghai South Railway Station with the suburban district of Jinshan on a 56km route. Shanghai is planning to extend its Metro network from 400km to 600km by 2015.
