Sabre’s travel tracking technology has been “paramount in keeping agents and passengers connected” during the European flight crisis, the GDS provider’s Senior Vice President of Europe, Middle East and Africa, Martin Cowley, told TDME.
“Our Traveller Security Data Suite (TSDS) allows agents to locate passengers anywhere in the world within 10 minutes,” he explained. “This means that agents can contact their customers quickly and inform them about what’s going on.”
Day one of the European flight cancellations alone saw 40,000 of Sabre’s bookings impacted with the trend looked to continue until flight patterns returned to normal.
But tracking programmes meant passengers could be “kept updated” and agents could “quickly reorganise other means of transport”, said Cowley.
“In addition, passengers have been using TripCase, a free mobile phone download which can show delays on flights,” he said.
“Technology helps on two levels, firstly to enable fast efficient communication between travel agent and passenger and secondly to quickly facilitate some sort of solution.”
