Afaneh named Jordan’s new Minister for Tourism

Jordan’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Maha Khatib, has stood down from the position and has been replaced by Suzanne Afaneh, a former anchor and channel director at Jordan Television and head of the communications department at Zain Telecom Company in Jordan.Afaneh’s appointment follows a cabinet reshuffle by Jordan’s Prime Minister Samir Rifai. It brings to three the number of women in Jordan’s parliament.After welcoming the new ministers and congratulating them on their appointments, Rifai stressed the importance of diligence and teamwork in implementing the King’s directives outlined in the Letter of Designation.He also urged the Cabinet to build on what has already been accomplished at various levels within the government’s action plan, including in regards to its tourism strategy.Meanwhile, the Jordan Tourism Board has launched Visit Jordan Academy, an online travel accreditation programme that provides agents with information regarding Jordan’s various tourism offerings.
