The Air France-KLM Board of Directors has approved plans to purchase 110 new long-haul aircraft – 50 firm orders and 60 options. While the acquisition is still subject to discussions with the manufacturers, the order is expected to include at least 43 Airbus A350-900 and 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, to be delivered to the group by 2024. The first aircraft – a B787-9 – will enter into service with KLM in 2016, while the first A350-900 will be delivered to Air France in 2018.
The group said the deal, which is the first joint long-haul order by Air France and KLM, is aimed at replacing the airlines’ aging wide-body fleet.
