Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia will increase capacity on routes between Australia and New Zealand for the upcoming Southern Hemisphere summer season.
From November 2014 to March 2015, the partner airlines will offer an additional seven weekly services on routes to the South Island city, from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, adding more than 36,000 seats.
In addition, seven more weekly flights will be operated to and from Christchurch, adding 43,000 more seats. This will include morning and evening services from Christchurch to Sydney.
“It’s fantastic to see demand on Christchurch services on the rise and we hope to further stimulate this growth by working closely with our alliance partner Virgin Australia. We believe this additional capacity to two of our key South Island ports will appeal to both leisure and business travellers with convenient onward connections to our domestic network,” said Cam Wallace, Air New Zealand’s chief sales & commercial officer.
All trans-Tasman services will be operated using a combination of Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft, with the exception of the longer Christchurch–Perth route which utilises a Boeing 767 aircraft.
