Air passengers stranded by Sichuan storm

Dozens of flights were delayed at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport on Sunday as a thunderstorms swept across the Sichuan hub. Xinhua reported Air China, which has its western base in Chengdu, as saying that said that 47 of its flights were delayed at the airport, leaving more than 5,000 passengers stranded. A further 20 inbound Air China services were redirected.
Meanwhile a major highway in Sichuan was forced to close yesterday after mudslides blocked the road. State Highway 213 links Sichuan with the provinces of Gansu to the north and Yunnan to the south.
