airberlin will become the first airline in the world to offer boarding passes on the SmartWatch.
Using the carrier’s iPhone app, passengers can download the boarding pass and then send the barcode to their Pebble Steel SmartWatch. They can then scan their watch at the airport gate.
The watch also displays an overview of flight information for the passenger, including the departure time, gate number and seat.
“This option makes opening the boarding pass on the iPhone or even searching for the paper pass in your purse a thing of the past. It’s just another step airberlin is taking to simplify the boarding process through technical innovation,” said André Rahn, airberlin’s senior vice president of marketing.
Meanwhile, airberlin has also updated its iPhone app to include several new features, including booking history and destination information, which the carrier says will serve as a “mobile tour guide”.
