Two Shanghai-based airlines have launched self-service baggage drop stations at the city’s Pudong International Airport.
Juneyao Air and Spring Airlines will both now offer the facilities, which allow passengers to check-in online or at self-service kiosks, then leave their luggage at the new baggage drop stations. This negates the need to stand in line at the check-in counter and is aimed at reducing waiting times.
Currently, 12 baggage drop stations are in operation at Pudong Airport, and the facility will be expanded to Shanghai’s second airport, Hongqiao, in October 2016.
Both airports are also considering plans to introduce self-service boarding systems at boarding gates in future.
